Founded in 1949 after Bill Reeve persuaded the local church to gift the village the field now known as the Recreation Ground for use as a cricket pitch, Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club has made great strides in the years since.
From its early days of fielding teams of villagers to play friendly fixtures against surrounding villages utilising an agricultural trailer for a pavilion during the 1950s, ARCC now draw players from all over Essex to enjoy the first class modern pavilion and excellent playing facilities.
Friendly fixtures on Sunday’s – often against the local villages we played in the early days – are complemented by highly competitive Saturday 1st and 2nd X1 fixtures in the T-Rippon Mid Essex League on Saturdays and mid-week 20/20 cup competitions.
Since joining the Mid Essex League in 1990 ARCC have achieved considerable success:-
Premier Division Winners (3 times), Division 1 Winners, Division 2 Winners, Division 3 Runners-Up, Division 4 Runners-Up, Division 5 Winners, Division 6 Runners Up, Division 7 Winners, Division 8 Runners-Up, Division 10 winners.
Further success has been achieved in various mid-week 20/20 cup competitions over the years with Aythorpe’s agricultural origins often coming to the fore when batting!!
ARCC boast a broad membership and are proud to count amongst its playing members former first class cricketers Andy Clarke and Joseph Grant as well as one of the most highly regarded Coaches in the country – Terry Charrington – on whom Nasser Hussain heaped praise in his autobiography.
This wealth of experience provides plenty of learning opportunities for youth and senior members alike. Boys and girls aged from aged 7 upwards are invited to attend the Club’s Youth Development sessions on Wednesdays from 6-30pm during the months of April to August with seniors invited to Thursday (6pm) practice nights at the club during the summer or at the Essex Indoor School during the winter.
ARCC are committed to developing its Youth membership lead by a Youth Development Officer and Child Protection Officer in accordance with ECB best practice. This initiative is supported by a team of ECB qualified coaches.
New members of all ages and abilities are welcomed so if you are interested in joining a friendly but ambitious club, please contact Graham Reeve in the first instance on 01245 401070 or email: graham@reeve.plus.com
